True to their name, D’Addario Gypsy Jazz strings were designed to meet the needs of gypsy jazz guitar players in an era before amplification. Originally made by John D’Addario Sr. for legendary luthier Mario Maccaferri, these strings deliver the authentic tone and feel of acoustic jazz. Constructed with a high-carbon steel core and silver-plated copper wrap wire, this set produces the beautifully warm, percussive, and projecting tone heard in the recordings of Django Reinhardt and other acoustic jazz ensembles. The 10–44 Light Ball End set is specifically designed for acoustic guitars that use ball-end strings. Available from Sadek Music, the D’Addario EJ83L is an excellent choice for players seeking an authentic gypsy jazz sound and responsive acoustic performance.

Frequently asked questions

Classical and flamenco guitars need nylon strings; acoustic guitars need steel acoustic sets (bronze or phosphor bronze); electric guitars need electric sets (nickel or steel); bass guitars, ukuleles, violins and ouds each need their own sets. If you are not sure, send us your instrument model on WhatsApp at +971 55 351 5764.

Gauge is the thickness of the strings, usually given in thousandths of an inch (for example 10-46). Lighter gauges are easier to play and bend; heavier gauges give a fuller sound and more tension.

It depends on how much you play. Change them when they sound dull, feel rough or corroded, or no longer stay in tune; players who practise daily often change strings every few weeks.
