Classical guitars come in 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full 4/4 sizes. As a rough guide, 1/4 suits about ages 4-6, 1/2 about ages 6-8, 3/4 about ages 8-11 and 4/4 ages 12 to adult, but height and arm length matter more than age. Steel strings, usually phosphor bronze or 80/20 bronze. Lighter gauges are easier on the fingers; heavier gauges give a fuller sound but need more finger pressure. Do not put steel strings on a classical (nylon-string) guitar.

Nylon strings (some sets use carbon trebles with wound bass strings). Never fit steel strings to a classical or flamenco guitar: the extra tension can damage the neck and bridge.

An acoustic-electric guitar has a built-in pickup and preamp so it can be plugged into an amplifier or PA system; a purely acoustic guitar has no electronics. Check the Specification tab of this product for its electronics.

Both use nylon strings. Flamenco guitars usually have a lower action, a brighter and more percussive sound and a tap plate (golpeador) to protect the top; classical guitars are voiced for a warmer, rounder tone with more sustain.
