The Gibson Les Paul™ Special was first introduced in 1955 as an upgraded version of the Les Paul Junior — a stripped-down yet high-quality solidbody electric guitar initially intended as a student model, first released in 1954. Like the early Juniors, the original Les Paul Special featured a slab, single-cutaway mahogany body. Gibson enhanced it with a second pickup, additional controls, a pickup selector switch, fretboard binding, and a fancier mother-of-pearl headstock logo. While more feature-rich, it retained the Junior’s simple wraparound bridge, straightforward attitude, and wide tonal range — qualities quickly embraced by both students and professional musicians. In 1958, the Les Paul Special transitioned to a double-cutaway body, improving access to the upper frets. 

By 1960, Gibson repositioned the neck pickup for a more stable neck-to-body joint and introduced the SlimTaper™ neck profile, making it faster and easier to play than ever. Now available at Sadek Music, the Les Paul Special Double Cut returns to Gibson’s core lineup, preserving the classic design that has shaped sound across generations and genres. It features a double-cutaway mahogany body for balanced playability and easy fretboard access. The mahogany neck features a SlimTaper profile and is capped with a bound rosewood fretboard, adorned with acrylic dot inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets. Smooth-turning Gibson Vintage Deluxe tuners with white buttons on the headstock, along with a Graph Tech® nut, ensure solid tuning stability. Strings anchor to a simple wraparound bridge/tailpiece with two intonation adjustment screws bolted directly into the mahogany body, contributing to the excellent tone and sustain that the Les Paul Special Double Cut is known for.
