Generations, Martin Guitar is proud to reinforce that call to action this Earth Day with the all-new DSS Biosphere® II. The third model in our Earth Day series showcases another stunning work of art from acclaimed artist Robert Goetzl, taking us to the waters off the coast of Hawaii. This model is a tribute to the Keiki Kohola Project – Caring for Calves in Maui Waters, a nonprofit that promotes the protection of humpback whale mother and calf pairs during their time in Hawaiian waters. C. F. Martin & Co. has made a generous donation to its cause. The DSS Biosphere II is also FSC® certified, 100% plastic-free, and will be adorned with the Preferred by Nature Hummingbird Seal.

It’s a satin sloped-shoulder Dreadnought that provides a warm and mellow tone rounded out by powerful mids, bright and airy trebles, and plenty of volume. All nature has its own song to sing. With the DSS Biosphere II, Martin hopes to raise awareness of protecting the environment, and the beautiful music it creates.

You’ll immediately notice how the Biosphere dreadnought’s stunning top makes a unique visual statement. Similarly, the body shape sounds distinct, with a touch more warmth than Martin’s standard D series dreadnoughts. Sloped shoulders add maturity and balance to the Biosphere’s thick dreadnought projection — essentially making tones more musical by reigning in woody lows. This modification is bound to make a difference for fingerstyle players, singer/songwriters, and recording artists. Furthermore, the Biosphere’s mahogany neck delivers versatile support for an abundance of playing styles. This neck features Martin’s modified low oval high-performance taper — a mouthful to say, but a joy to play! This tapered take on the oval neck fuels enhanced accuracy and comfort at both ends, giving you the right grip for large frets down low and smaller frets up high. No matter your playing style, we think you’ll feel right at home with the Martin Biosphere dreadnought.

The Biosphere dreadnought’s spruce top and sapele back and sides deliver clear tone that harkens back to classic Martin recipes, but with a twist: they were responsibly sourced and have receipts to prove it. The Biosphere dreadnought is 100% FSC-certified, which means it’s won the seal of approval from the Forest Stewardship Council, the group that oversees one of the world’s leading voluntary sustainability programs. What’s more, the Biosphere dreadnought contains zero plastic, a rarity in the guitar world that showcases a future that’s packed with clean oceans and beautiful instruments, not just one or the other! For example, the bridge is crafted with an FSC-certified ebony base and bone pins. On top of being green, these premium components let the true nature of tonewoods and strings shine by offering superior performance to plastic at every turn.
