When Gibson first launched the Les Paul™ Special in 1955, it was designed as a more refined version of the Les Paul Junior — featuring two pickups instead of one and upgraded visual details like a mother-of-pearl headstock logo inlay and a bound fretboard. This made it an intermediate model between the elegant Les Paul Standard and the student-focused Les Paul Junior. By 1958, the body was updated to a double cutaway design, allowing easier access to the upper frets, while in 1960, the neck was reshaped with a SlimTaper™ profile for improved stability and faster playability.
Now, Epiphone proudly introduces the Les Paul Special Double Cut, available at Sadek Music, as part of its Inspired by Gibson collection — a faithful recreation of those early 1960s models.
It features a solid mahogany double-cutaway body for effortless fretboard access and a glued-in mahogany neck with a 60s SlimTaper profile. The bound rosewood fretboard includes 22 medium jumbo frets and pearloid dot inlays for a smooth, classic feel.
The 1960s Kalamazoo-style headstock features Epiphone’s vintage three-on-a-plate tuners with ivory buttons, a Graph Tech® nut for rock-solid tuning stability, and the iconic Epiphone logo inlaid in mother-of-pearl. At the bridge, an Epiphone Lightning Bar compensated wraparound ensures enhanced sustain and resonance.
Powering this model are two Epiphone P-90 PRO™ single-coil Soapbar pickups, delivering everything from crisp, clean tones to gritty, overdriven power. Each pickup includes individual volume and tone controls for exceptional tonal flexibility.
